Oshitate Environmental Committee

Oshitate Environmental Committee

In March 1998, with the aim of fostering community and a sense of unity in the area, the Oshitate Neighborhood Association, Inagi City, and public and private sectors cooperated to complete Oshitatebori Park as a citizen-participation handmade park on government land beside a neglected irrigation canal. Since then, the Oshitate Neighborhood Association has managed and maintained the park. Later, a specialized maintenance organization, the "Oshitate Environment Committee," was established to maintain and manage Oshitatebori Park along with the Acacia forest walking path along the Tama River. The park has become a place of relaxation for citizens, including those in the Oshitate area. Oshitatebori Park features the highest mound in Oshitate, Oshitate Fuji (3776 cm), a pond, seasonal flowering trees, flower beds from the Fourth Junior High and Fourth Elementary Schools, and four zones including a vegetable garden. Additionally, the "Fire Watchtower," a symbol of the Oshitate area's revival, was relocated within the park. The park also contributes to regional revitalization by displaying carp streamers in spring and installing illuminations in winter.
Currently, maintenance and management are being carried out with the cooperation of related organizations within the community, including the Fourth Elementary and Fourth Junior High Schools. However, due to the aging of the core members involved in committee activities, there are increasing limitations to these activities (such as a decrease in workload, shortage of personnel for physically demanding tasks, shortage of personnel for pruning and mowing, and the need to reduce the burden on members). We ask for the participation of those willing to cooperate, even if they are from outside the Oshitate area.
