Latest News on Child Allowance (February 3, 2025)

The Child Allowance system has been expanded due to the legal revision in October of Reiwa 6.

The main changes are as follows. For details of the system, please see the Children and Families Agency website.

Point!! Main Revisions of the Child Allowance

  1. Abolition of Income Restrictions

  2. Expand the eligible children from middle school age to high school age (up to the end of the fiscal year at age 18)

  3. Increase the additional payment amount for the third child and beyond from 15,000 yen to 30,000 yen per month

  4. Expand the count of the third child from high school age and below to university age and below (up to the end of the fiscal year at age 22)

  5. Change the payment frequency from 3 times a year to 6 times a year (December, February, April, June, August, October)

Note: Public servants will receive this from their workplace. Please contact your employer.

About Child Allowance Payment

Eligible Recipients

Parents or guardians residing in Inagi City who are raising children from 0 years old to high school age (up to March 31 after turning 18 years old)

  • Among the parents and guardians of the children, those who primarily support the household (the ones with higher income) will be the recipients (Parent or Guardian).
  • If the Parent or Guardian resides outside Inagi City, please apply to the city, ward, or town where the Parent or Guardian resides.
  • If you are a public servant, please apply at your workplace. However, if you are a public servant but cannot receive the Child Allowance from your workplace, please apply to the Child Care Support Division.
  • If you are caring for a child of university age, you can register them as a qualifying child. The allowance will be increased if there are three or more qualifying children.

Monthly Allowance Amount

Elementary School Student 10,000 yen

High School Age 10,000 yen
University Student Age 0 yen (There is no payment, but you can register as a calculated child)

Additional Allowance for Multiple Children (Increase for the 3rd Child and Beyond)

Under the Child Allowance system, an increase is provided for families with three or more children.

If the total number of eligible children exceeds two, the amount for the third child and beyond will be 30,000 yen.

About Bank Transfers

The Child Allowance will be deposited into the financial institution account of the recipient in April (for February and March), June (for April and May), August (for June and July), October (for August and September), December (for October and November), and February (for December and January).

Start of Payment

In principle, benefits will be provided starting from the month following the month in which the application was made.
However, in the case of applications due to birth or moving in, if the application is made within 15 days from the day after the date of birth or the date of moving in, the allowance will be provided starting from the month following the month of the date of birth or the date of moving in.

Certification Request

Application Method

  1. Please bring it to the Child Care Support Division, Benefits and Grants Section on the 2nd floor of City Hall
  2. Bring to Hirao and Wakabadai Branch Office (However, we cannot provide detailed information about the system, so please check with the Child Care Support Division, Allowance and Subsidy Section for necessary documents and details about the system.)
  3. Mail to the Child Care Support Division at City Hall (The reception date will be the date the documents arrive at the Child Care Support Division)

Procedures by Mail

Applications for the Child Allowance and the Medical Expense Assistance Program for Infants and Young Children, compulsory education students, and high school students can be submitted by mail.

Items required for application (Documents 3 to 5 can be submitted at a later date)

  1. "Certification Invoice" and "Confirmation of Burden for Guardianship Equivalent and Living Expenses"
    • Note: A confirmation document regarding the burden of guardianship and living expenses is required only for households with three or more children, where the guardian is of university age.
  2. Documents showing the bank account number (ordinary savings) in the name of the Child Allowance applicant (Parent or Guardian) (passbook or card)
  3. Child Allowance Applicant (Parent or Guardian)本人のHealth Insurance Card copy
    • Note: Only those who are raising children under the age of 3 and are enrolled in a pension other than the National Pension
    • Note: Children under 3 years old refer to those who reach the age of 3 for the first time on or after March 31 (up to the end of the fiscal year in which they turn 3).
  4. If you are living apart from the child you are raising, the following documents will be required.

If there are any changes after the application, please submit the following Notification.

Each procedure can be accepted by mail, but in the case of account changes, please be sure to enclose a copy of your cash card or passbook.

The number of eligible children has increased (due to births, etc.)

Please submit the request for the revision of the amount.
The increase will take effect from the month following the submission.

Moved within Inagi City

Please submit the address and name change notification.

Moved out of Inagi City

Please submit the notification of termination of benefits.
In addition, you will need to submit a new certification request in the municipality you are moving to.

Only the main breadwinner moves their residence overseas for a solo assignment.

Please submit the notification of the termination of the reason for receiving the Child Allowance, which is being received by the main breadwinner.
At the same time, please submit a new certification request in your spouse's name.

Became a public servant

Public servants receive Child Allowance from their workplace.
If the recipient becomes a public servant, please submit a notification of the termination of the reason for receiving benefits.
In addition, you will need to submit a new certification request at your workplace.

The account has changed

Please complete the procedure using the LoGo form below.

Changed name

Please submit the address and name change notification.
If the name on the transfer account is also changing, please submit the transfer account change notification as well.

Separated from the child

A notification is required. Please contact the Child Care Support Division.

No longer raising children

If the recipient no longer raises the child due to divorce or other reasons, please submit a notification of the termination of eligibility.

The main breadwinner has returned from overseas on a solo assignment.

Please submit the notification of the termination of the reason for receiving the Child Allowance that is being received by your spouse.
At the same time, please submit a new certification request under the name of the main breadwinner.

Procedures for Changing the Recipient

The recipient of the Child Allowance is the parent or guardian with the higher income. If there is a reversal in income amounts between parents or guardians in the new fiscal year, it may be possible to change the recipient of the Child Allowance based on a personal declaration. Please consult us if you wish to change the recipient.
