Our car-free household goes to the Nursery School and work by bicycle, even on hot days and typhoon days.

The sidewalks along the way are very slippery on rainy days...
Combined with the slopes, the bicycle brake shoes become less effective within a year, and although they were replaced, they already feel less effective after just a few months.
On the recent typhoon day, I was afraid of slipping, so I walked to drop off and pick up my child and commute. It took more than twice the usual time, and I thought it would be a bit impossible on mornings when I don't have much time to spare.

Last year, I fell about twice. My tire got caught on the square tiles on the sidewalk near the park next to the Nursery School, and I fell. Another time, I was startled by a car that suddenly appeared, and when I applied the brakes, I slipped on the tiles and my bicycle slid onto the roadway.
In the rain at the beginning of April, I slipped the moment I turned to cross the traffic light in front of the Nursery School. Fortunately, my child was not yet on the bike, but I ended up with very large bruises on both legs and the handlebar lock snapped with a crack. Thinking about if my child had been on it is very frightening.

Also, when going out with a stroller on days off, the plaza between Koyodai Elementary School and the junior high school has many square tiles and gravel, causing the stroller to shake. When my child was small, running the stroller over the tiles often woke them up from their nap.
Could you please find a way to eliminate the steps and apply anti-slip coating on the sidewalks, similar to what is done on pedestrian bridges?
When there are many people, I ride on the roadway, but there is a large gutter near Ueno Dermatology Clinic, and thinking about the possibility of falling when passing by, I inevitably end up riding on the sidewalk on rainy days.

Response

Koyodai, the eastern gateway to Tama New Town, takes into account the streetscape and other aesthetic aspects, featuring pavement designed to resemble European cobblestones throughout the town. Residents have expressed their appreciation for preserving this scenery.
On the other hand, we have received requests for improvements such as leveling sidewalk steps, and the city, taking into account requests for improvements from Older Adults who may trip and from stroller users, carries out sidewalk repairs by replacing small stone tiles with asphalt paving.
At present, there are no plans for comprehensive renovations or anti-slip pavement, but going forward, we will continue repairs using asphalt pavement and strive for proper maintenance and management.
