Request for Improvement of Pedestrian Safety and Prevention of Soil Erosion near the Kawasaki City Border on Prefectural Route 124 (Inagi Yomiuriland-mae Station Line)

There is a location in Inagi City's road environment where I feel extremely unsafe during daily walking and strolling, and I am proposing improvements.

1. Relevant Location
Near the border between Asao Ward, Kawasaki City, and Yanokuchi, Inagi City, on Prefectural Route 124 (Inagi Yomiuriland-mae Station Line)

2. Current Situation and Risks
Sudden disappearance and narrowness of the sidewalk: On the Kawasaki City Asao Ward side, a safe sidewalk with guardrails over 1 meter high is maintained, but as soon as you enter Inagi City, the sidewalk completely disappears.
There is only a white line with a width of about 50 centimeters, and since cars pass right next to it, pedestrians constantly feel their lives are in danger due to the risk of contact.
The inside of the road next to the slope is an unpaved, bare soil incline, and every time it rains, soil and mud flow onto the road.
This has been left unattended for many years, causing pedestrians to almost trip on stones, slip on the mud underfoot, and be forced to move toward the roadway, creating further danger.
Furthermore, upon checking past images on Google Street View, it was revealed that this dangerous condition has been completely neglected and unchanged for as long as 16 years (since around 2010).
Although the surrounding roads have been renewed due to the construction of G Town and the land readjustment in the Minamiyama area, this section at the city border alone has been completely left behind in the same dangerous state for over 16 years.

3. Requests
This is a serious safety management issue that directly affects the lives of pedestrians currently using the area.
We strongly request that, in coordination with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and relevant parties, urgent measures and repair work be implemented to secure soil retention on the unpaved slope (to prevent soil erosion) and ensure a safe walking space (such as guardrails or effective widening of white lines) so that pedestrians can pass safely.

Response

Regarding the area near the Kawasaki city border on the Inagi Yomiuriland-mae Station Line, which you requested, there were initially no plans for road improvements. However, while road maintenance for the sections before and after this area has been planned and completed, this particular section remained unimproved, creating a bottleneck. Therefore, with the aim of facilitating smoother local traffic and improving pedestrian safety, after repeated consultations with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, it was decided to carry out a road widening and improvement project.
Furthermore, by having Inagi City, the local municipality, undertake the project from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, we are promoting further project advancement along with detailed responses based on a deeper understanding of the local circumstances.
Currently, discussions are underway with relevant parties and related organizations in preparation for the development.
We will continue to work towards early completion of the project while gaining the understanding and cooperation of all parties involved.
