Regarding Bicycle Manners
Inagi City is promoting itself as a bicycle-friendly city. While that is good, the manners of road bike riders are not good. Nearby, there is the old Yomiuriland slope, and currently, there is a tunnel from Giants Town Stadium heading toward Keio Yomiuriland Station. That slope prohibits bicycle passage, but most road bikes ignore this and pass through the tunnel. I have encountered road bikes speeding out of the tunnel several times. I have also witnessed troubles. If you are promoting a bicycle city, please create an environment where bicycles and residents can safely share the space. Bicycles are light vehicles. Please strictly enforce regulations, including penalties.
Response
Regarding the bicycle traffic violations you inquired about, we have requested the Tama Central Police Station to conduct guidance and enforcement at the requested locations.
The city has installed warning signs near the tunnel entrance from the direction of Keio Yomiuriland Station toward Giants Town Stadium, indicating that light vehicles, including bicycles, are not allowed to pass through the roadway inside the tunnel. However, since there are no warning signs near the tunnel entrance from Giants Town Stadium toward Keio Yomiuriland Station, we will consult with relevant organizations and consider installing them.
Currently, the city is proceeding with improvement and widening work on the Yomiuriland Line, and upon completion, it is expected that the sidewalk in front of the apartment building will be expanded, ensuring safety.
Furthermore, regarding public awareness activities aimed at improving bicycle users' manners and preventing traffic accidents, the city has been collaborating with the Tama Central Police Station and local residents to conduct bicycle safety driving classes and bicycle stop campaigns at various locations throughout the city. We will continue to promote traffic safety awareness activities for bicycle users.
