Regarding Crime Prevention in Central Park and the North Side Walkway of Nagamine Chuo Street

Recently, there have been increasing instances of feeling unsafe regarding crime prevention in Inagi City's Central Park and the walkway on the north side of Nagamine Chuo Street. Specifically, in late June, chairs and sofas were illegally dumped in the green area near Zousan Bridge and the walkway. These have been removed by the city. Additionally, there is a poster of player Otani on the Itoen vending machine in Central Park, which has been vandalized with black graffiti. The graffiti occurred within the past month. Central Park and the walkway have few pedestrians, especially at night, and we believe it is necessary to create an environment where local residents can use these areas with peace of mind.

To enhance safety, we kindly ask you to consider measures such as increasing the number of security lights, improving the brightness of lighting, installing security cameras (has this already been done in Central Park? Please also consider this for the walkway and Zousan Bridge), and strengthening police patrols. Regarding lighting, we understand the concept of Nagamine as a "town where stars can be seen." I also support this concept. However, I believe it is necessary to review whether this concept is being used as a reason to do nothing. For example, if continuously lit lighting is not allowed under the concept, installing sensor lights could be a possible alternative.

Central Park and the walkway are important public spaces that many residents use daily for walking, commuting, and going to school. We would appreciate your consideration in enhancing crime prevention measures to maintain an environment where everyone can feel safe using these areas.

Response

Regarding the lighting installation status of the walkway on the north side of Nagamine Chuo Street, based on the town concept of "a town where stars can be seen," the streetlights managed by the city, which have had their LEDs replaced, are appropriately installed at intervals of about 15 meters alternating left and right. At this time, there are no plans to increase the number of security lights. We will continue to strive for proper management.
Regarding the graffiti in the park, we have posted cautionary notices within the park and instructed the Inagi Green Wellness Foundation, the designated manager of city parks, to strengthen patrols in order to prevent recurrence.
Although the illumination level of the park lights meets the standards, to further enhance safety, five security cameras have been installed at appropriate locations within Inagi Central Park, such as places where people gather and other areas considered important for crime prevention, and we are working to ensure a secure crime prevention system.
In the event of a suspicious incident, we kindly ask you to call 110 to report it to the Tama Central Police Station. By reporting, the police station will strengthen focused patrols in the crime-affected areas, and the city will receive notifications from the police station and use the city’s email distribution service to provide real-time alerts to all citizens.
To promptly provide effective alerts after an incident occurs, we kindly ask you to make an immediate 110 emergency call.
We will continue to cooperate with the Tama Central Police Station to ensure the safety of all citizens.
