About the i-Bus Route Change Plan

Among the subsidy projects conducted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, there are those for community bus operation and similar services. I heard from a metropolitan government official that this project undergoes proper screening to determine the appropriateness of the subsidy. After hearing this, I thought that not only the citizens' requests but also requirements suitable for the times and the validity of the plan would be examined.
Please consider the merits and demerits, cost-effectiveness, and the safety and security of the local residents' lives when deciding whether or not to proceed, ensuring that the project does not become one solely for the sake of subsidies and is firmly focused on the community.

Response

Currently, in Inagi City, Odakyu Bus Co., Ltd., which operates the i-Bus, has requested a review of the i-Bus operation routes due to factors such as the nationwide serious shortage of bus drivers and the need to comply with the revised "Standards for Improvement of Working Hours for Motor Vehicle Drivers," which came into effect on April 1, 2024, commonly known as the Improvement Standards Notification. To realize transportation services that reflect the actual conditions of the region, discussions on reviewing the i-Bus operation routes are being held at the "Inagi City Regional Public Transportation Council," which consists of representatives from each Neighborhood Association, various citizen groups, bus operators, and the police. Furthermore, during this review process, efforts are being made to proceed while gathering opinions from citizens through public opinion hearings and other means.
Regarding the Tokyo Metropolitan Government subsidy you inquired about, the city is utilizing this subsidy for boarding and alighting surveys and other foundational materials necessary for considering vehicle updates and revisions in the review of the i-Bus operation routes.
