About Street Trees
I previously suggested that if the management of deciduous trees cannot be done, I would like to request their removal.
The response was that pruning is done once every three years. The trees were probably planted 20 to 30 years ago, but the density of housing then and now is different, so I question whether they are necessary in residential areas.
Cleaning up fallen leaves is the responsibility of each citizen. I clean up fallen leaves from the sidewalk to my property every day, filling a 45L bag to the brim.
Risk Level 1: I often see people carelessly discarding cigarettes. There is a possibility that dry grass could catch fire and cause a blaze.
Risk Level 2: When coming down the hill by bicycle, there is a possibility of falling due to piles of dead grass beside the road or dead grass on the sidewalk. (Especially bicycles carrying children)
Risk Level 3: The stop rate of drivers in this area is low, and there is a possibility that children and elderly people may panic and fall when crossing.
Risk Level 4: From spring to summer, the vegetation becomes dense, reducing the brightness in the area by half. The sidewalks are becoming less safe to walk on at night, potentially becoming a breeding ground for crime.
For the above reasons, it is desirable to cut down all the vegetation; however, at the very least, we request thinning by half and conducting road and sidewalk cleaning at least once a week during this period.
Response
Regarding the street trees along the front road, since taking over management from the land readjustment association in 1990, they have been cherished as shared assets of the citizens for about 35 years. Therefore, the city does not carry out tree felling due to fallen leaves. As for felling, it is conducted as appropriate after on-site confirmation for cases where the trees obstruct visibility of traffic signals or when turning right or left.
Regarding cleaning, on main roads within the city, road cleaning is carried out about once a month from November to January, when the leaves of street trees fall.
Additionally, regarding pruning, it is generally conducted once every three years; however, for the front road mentioned in the feedback, considering that it has had particularly many requests, pruning is carried out once every two years instead of the usual three-year schedule.
