Handling of After-School Childcare Program Exclusion During Maternity and Childcare Leave
Our first child, a first grader, is attending the After-School Childcare Program.
I am currently pregnant with my third child, but upon giving birth, it seems we must withdraw our eldest child from the After-School Childcare Program. Depending on the timing of my return to work, our middle child may not be able to enter the After-School Childcare Program from first grade, and we will have to care for all three children, including the baby, at home.
We are both working and have no parental support, so we are raising our children in isolation. We also registered with Family Support, but could not find a match.
It will probably be difficult to re-enter the After-School Childcare Program even if I return to work after leaving the program.
We hope that it will become possible to use the After-School Childcare Program during maternity and childcare leave at an early stage.
Response
The city implements Children's Centers, After-School Childcare Programs, and After-School Children's Programs as projects to create safe and secure places for children after school. Among these, the After-School Childcare Program is a child development project targeting elementary school children whose parents or guardians are not at home during the day due to work or other reasons. Therefore, during childcare leave, we guide you to use the After-School Children's Program or Children's Centers, which do not require the parent or guardian to be working.
Currently, use around the time of childbirth is available for three months, including before and after childbirth, at the After-School Childcare Program. Additionally, places where parents or guardians can use facilities together with infants and young children include various Children's Centers and the Koyodai Play Space. Since events are held, please refer to the newsletters of each Children's Center on the city website.
