About Restaurants Operated by Foreigners

In Inagi City, we have held a stamp rally visiting curry shops within the city, and have accepted restaurants operated by foreigners as part of the community. I personally have favorite Chinese and Indian curry restaurants, which have become indispensable for enjoying food in the city. On the other hand, it is well known that recently the national government raised the capital requirement for residence status to 30 million yen, putting existing foreign-operated restaurants at risk of closure. When I recently asked the owner of an Indian curry restaurant in the city about this matter, they expressed concerns about the survival of their business. While we hope the government will design the system carefully to protect restaurants rooted in the community, how does the City Administration view this recent revision of the system?

Response

The national government has recently revised the landing permission criteria for the residence status "Business Manager" for foreigners, taking into account similar systems in other countries.
From the city's perspective, we recognize that this revision was made from the viewpoint of ensuring that foreigners engage in stable and continuous business management or business administration activities, while also considering comparisons with other countries.
In our city, including restaurants operated by foreigners, we consider dining establishments to be extremely important for revitalizing commerce and creating vibrancy within the city. Up until now, we have supported local small and medium-sized enterprises in various ways, such as through the small business loan mediation system and assistance via the Inagi City Commerce and Industry Association.
We will continue to respond to consultations so that small and medium-sized enterprises, which have been rooted in the community for many years and are loved by citizens, can continue their businesses with peace of mind.
