Bicycle thefts are occurring frequently

Bicycle Theft

In Inagi City, bicycle thefts are occurring frequently, accounting for about 30% of the crimes committed within the city.

These incidents mainly occur in bicycle parking lots around stations and commercial facilities such as convenience stores and supermarkets, with bicycles left unlocked being especially targeted.

Always lock your bicycle

Bicycles left unattended on the street or parked without locking are easy targets for bicycle thieves.

By always locking your bicycle when parking, you can reduce the risk of bicycle theft.

If your bicycle is stolen, it not only disrupts your daily life but the stolen bicycle may also be used in other crimes, so let's thoroughly implement crime prevention measures on a regular basis.

Two-Lock

"Two-Lock" refers to a locking method where two or more different locks are attached to a bicycle or similar vehicle.

・Buying Time Against Theft
Thieves do not want to spend much time committing their crime. Having two locks simply doubles or more the time required to unlock or break them.

・Countermeasures Against Destruction Methods
By combining different types of locks, the thief needs to prepare different tools and techniques for each. This makes it significantly harder than breaking a single lock.

・Visual Deterrent Effect
Just seeing multiple locks in place creates a psychological effect where the thief judges that the owner is "security-conscious" and that "it will take time," causing the criminal to avoid the target.

Types of Bicycle Locks

A lock shaped like a horse's hoof. It is standard on the rear wheel of many commercially available bicycles.
Since there is no need to carry it around like a wire lock, locking the bicycle is smooth and easy when parking.

Wire Lock

A lock attached to a wire. It is relatively inexpensive and does not require installation on the bicycle, making it easy to use multiple locks.
Available in a wide variety of lengths, thicknesses, and key types. There are dial types and key-insert types.

Made from high-strength materials, making them difficult to cut; the U-shape resists leverage attacks, providing strong protection against prying and generally offering high security performance.
Designed to easily lock both the fixed object and the bicycle together, enabling highly effective theft prevention.

Joint Wire Lock

Formed from wire + steel joints + cover, it tends to have higher security performance than regular wire locks.
Depending on the length, it is easier to lock together with fixed objects.

Earth Lock

Earth lock refers to a locking method that secures a bicycle or similar item together with an immovable object fixed to the ground (such as fences, guardrails, or poles) to protect it from theft. The name comes from the image of "locking to the earth."

・High theft prevention effect

It can prevent theft methods where the entire bicycle or motorcycle is taken away without breaking the main lock.

・Raises the hurdle for theft

When locked to a fixed object, the thief must break either the lock or the fixed object itself to steal it, which requires effort and time. This increases the deterrent effect, discouraging theft.

Caution
If you lock your bike to utility poles, signs, or public fences without permission, it may be considered illegal parking and subject to removal. Be sure to check the parking rules and lock your bike in an appropriate location.
