What is an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)?

What is an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)

It is said that approximately 30,000 people die each year in Japan due to sudden cardiac arrest, and one of the main direct causes of sudden cardiac arrest is ventricular fibrillation.
The heart acts as a pump that sends blood throughout the body, delivering it in a steady rhythm. Ventricular fibrillation refers to a condition where the heart's ventricles tremble in small, rapid movements, preventing blood from being pumped out.
Ventricular Fibrillation is the only condition that can be defibrillated by delivering an electric shock, allowing a return to normalcy. Therefore, the speed of defibrillation is crucial, and the device that determines whether defibrillation is necessary and delivers an electric shock as needed is called an AED.
The AEDs installed in public facilities within the city display usage instructions in both audio guidance and on the main display with illustrations and text, making them easier to use.
