Subsidy for Vehicle Modification Costs (Installation of Driving Assistance Devices)

Even with disabilities in the hands and feet, you can drive a car by modifying the steering wheel and accelerator/brake, and changing the method of operation.
The renovation costs will be subsidized as follows.

Eligible Individuals

Persons who own, or whose cohabiting relatives own, a vehicle that is exclusively driven by the person themselves and require modification of part of the vehicle, and who meet all of the following criteria

  1. Persons with upper limb, lower limb, or trunk function disabilities who hold a Physical Disability Certificate with a comprehensive grade of 1 or 2.
  2. Persons aged 18 and over
  3. Those whose income from the previous year is within the income limit

Subsidy Amount

Subsidies are provided up to a limit of 133,900 yen per unit.
Note: However, this is limited to modification costs for steering and driving devices.

Required Documents

Be sure to apply before the modification with your Physical Disability Certificate, driver's license, and an estimate showing the details of the modification.
