The theme of Vol.09 is the popular "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED" and "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY," which remain beloved even 20 years after the start of their TV anime broadcasts. The captivating characters are depicted with multilayered settings, each intertwined through complex human relationships, and the war is portrayed within a grand worldview.
In mechanical design, Gundams appear one after another. The five Gundams—'Duel,' 'Buster,' 'Blitz,' 'Aegis,' and 'Strike'—each express their functional meanings through their names. Classic mobile suits like the 'Zaku' and 'Gouf' have also been redesigned to fit the world setting, and each unit's appeal lies in the way they are operated appropriately through equipment and interchangeable parts such as backpacks.
"Freedom" and "Justice" rank among the top in the popularity rankings of mobile suits throughout history, and the operation of warships such as "Eternal" and "Archangel" also has a sense of realism, making them one of the highlights.
At Mecha Designers Summit Vol.09, we welcomed Director Mitsuo Fukuda, mechanical designers Kunio Okawara and Kimihiro Yamane, as well as Shigeru Morita, who was in charge of special settings, to talk about the appeal of the work.
