Installation of the disposer alone is not possible

A disposer (garbage disposal unit) is a device that grinds up kitchen waste such as vegetable scraps and fish bones into small pieces and flushes them down the sewer pipes with water.
Using a disposer alone can cause leftover food waste to decompose and produce unpleasant odors, and can also lead to blockages in the drainage pipes within homes or apartments, or in the main sewer line.
Additionally, when organic waste flows in with regular sewage, it can exceed the processing capacity of sewage treatment plants and lead to the deterioration of water quality in public water areas.
Due to the above issues, the city does not permit the installation of disposals as standalone units.

About the Installation of the Disposal Drainage Treatment System

The city does not allow the installation of a disposer on its own, but it can be installed if it is part of a "Disposer Wastewater Treatment System".
However, it is limited to certified products that have received evaluation conforming to the "Performance Standards (Draft) for Disposal Drainage Treatment Systems for Sewers" created by the Japan Sewerage Association.
If you install this system, please notify the Sewerage Division.
