No. 17 New branch of the Tama Inagi Crime Prevention Association has been established
(Inagi Newsletter March 15, 2013 issue)
The inauguration ceremony of the "Wakabadai 2-chome Branch" was held on January 20, 2013, and I also participated. Following last year's "Wakabadai 4-chome Branch," this became the 14th branch established in the city, and the president of the Neighborhood Association of the relevant housing complex was appointed as the first branch chief.
On the day of the event, Chief Kurosawa of the Tama Central Police Station and Chairman Mizoguchi of the Tama Inagi Crime Prevention Association also attended. It was not just a simple ceremony; there were presentations of crime prevention equipment and a talk by the head of the police station's crime prevention division. When an actual recorded conversation from a bank transfer scam case was played, all the participating members listened intently and seriously.
The Crime Prevention Association operates under the motto "Protect our town by ourselves" and actively works on forming new branches. Specifically, the Crime Prevention Association and the city collaborate to reach out to Neighborhood Associations without branches, and upon obtaining their consent, new branches are established. Each branch continues to make steady efforts, and we would like to express our sincere gratitude and respect once again.
In Inagi City, to further enhance the effectiveness of these efforts, we have organized the "Safety and Security Community Development Promotion Council," centered around the Crime Prevention Association and including various related organizations such as the Neighborhood Association Federation and the Commissioned Welfare and Child Volunteers Council, as well as related administrative agencies like the Tama Central Police Station and the City Hall General Affairs Department.
This council conducts city-wide crime prevention patrols twice a year, before summer vacation and at the end of the year. Additionally, information is exchanged during approximately three coordination meetings annually. Every year, numerical targets for crime reduction are set, and everyone works together to eradicate crime.
By the way, in the Weekly Toyo Keizai issue published last October, the ranking of livable cities was announced, and Inagi City was ranked 1st in Tokyo and 33rd nationwide in the safe and secure city category.
We believe this achievement is thanks to the low number of crimes resulting from the collaboration between citizens and the administration, leveraging community strengths. That said, some crimes are heinous, and crimes reflecting local characteristics, such as targeting areas with many Older Adults, continue to occur, so the current situation cannot yet be considered satisfactory.
This year, we have set a goal to keep the number of crimes under 550. We want to work together with everyone to achieve this.
