Future Measures Following the Discontinuation of the Tetravalent Vaccine Production and Sales
Notice Regarding the Quadrivalent Vaccine
Due to the introduction of the pentavalent vaccine as a routine vaccination starting April 1, 2024, the production and sale of the quadrivalent vaccine have been discontinued.
Therefore, the quadrivalent vaccine can only be administered while supplies last. If you have received the quadrivalent vaccine but have not completed all four doses, please get vaccinated as soon as possible.
In addition, for routine vaccinations, the same type of vaccine is generally administered the required number of times. However, if there are unavoidable circumstances that prevent following the standard method, it is possible to consult with a medical institution and decide to switch to vaccination with either the "DPT (Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus) + Inactivated Polio Vaccine" or the "Pentavalent Vaccine." (Please check the examples of vaccination below.)
Please consult with the medical institution, as vaccine stock availability may vary depending on the facility.
Examples of Vaccination When Switching from the Quadrivalent Vaccine
- If three doses of the four-component combined vaccine and Hib vaccine have been administered ⇒ one additional dose of the pentavalent vaccine
- If three doses of the four-component combined vaccine and four doses of the Hib vaccine have been administered ⇒ check the vaccine availability and consult with a medical institution to receive vaccination by one of the following methods
- Administer one additional dose each of the combined triple vaccine and the inactivated polio vaccine
- One additional dose of the pentavalent vaccine
Regarding the Pre-vaccination Screening Form When Switching Vaccines
When switching from the four-component combined vaccine, it is necessary to replace the medical questionnaire with the one for the vaccine to be used (either the "three-component combined vaccine + inactivated polio vaccine" or the "five-component combined vaccine").
For more details, please contact the medical institution administering the vaccination or the Health Center (042-378-3421).
