Vaccination for Shingles Prevention for Older Adults (Regular Vaccination)

To prevent shingles and its complications, partial subsidies for vaccination costs are provided for Older Adults.

Implementation Period

From April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027

Note: Shingrix (inactivated vaccine) requires two doses in total. Since it takes about two months to complete the vaccination, early vaccination is recommended for those who wish to receive it.

Eligible Persons (FY2026)

Those who meet all of the following criteria are eligible.

• Registered as a resident of Inagi City on the vaccination date
• Have not previously received a vaccination for shingles
• (1) Those who reach the following ages or (2) those aged 60 to under 65 who have the following immune function disorders

(1) Those who reach the following ages

100 years old	Born from April 2, 1926 to April 1, 1927

(2) Those aged 60 to under 65 with the following disabilities

As of the vaccination date, those aged 60 or older but under 65, who have a disability caused by the human immunodeficiency virus that makes daily life almost impossible due to impaired immune function

Persons not eligible for subsidy

The following persons are excluded from subsidy eligibility.

• Received one dose of live vaccine (Biken)
• Completed two doses of the inactivated vaccine (Shingrix)

Note: Those who have received only one dose of the inactivated vaccine (Shingrix) are eligible for subsidy for the remaining one dose only.

Subsidy is only once in a lifetime

Subsidies for vaccination costs can be received only once in a lifetime.
Please note that you will not be eligible for subsidies after the applicable fiscal year.

The eligible age will change in the future.

From FY2025 to FY2029, as a transitional measure, individuals at 5-year age intervals are eligible.
From FY2030 onward, only those who are 65 years old at the time of vaccination are eligible.

Note: 1 Even if this method cannot be taken, it is desirable to complete the second vaccination within 6 months of the first vaccination.

Note: 2 For those who are immunocompromised due to illness or treatment, those with decreased immune function, or those who may have decreased immune function, and for whom a doctor has determined that early vaccination is necessary, it is acceptable to administer two intramuscular injections at intervals of one month or more.

Persons Eligible for Free Costs

The following persons are fully covered by public funds.

• Households receiving Public Assistance (Please bring your Public Assistance Certificate to the medical institution.)
• Recipients of Support Benefits for Former Japanese Residents in China, etc. (Please bring your Support Benefit Certificate to the medical institution.)

If you do not receive the postcard, please contact the Health Center.

Things to check before the vaccination day

Please carefully read the "(For Routine Vaccination) Explanation about Herpes Zoster Vaccination" distributed at medical institutions, and receive the vaccination after understanding its contents.

Those who cannot be vaccinated

The following people cannot be vaccinated.

• Those who have a fever
• Those suffering from a severe acute illness
• Those who have experienced anaphylaxis due to the components of this vaccination solution
• Others who are deemed by a doctor to be in a condition unsuitable for vaccination
• People with weakened immunity due to illness or treatment [Note: Live vaccine (Biken) only]

People who need to be cautious about vaccination

The following individuals need to be cautious about vaccination, so please consult a doctor in advance.

• Individuals with underlying conditions such as cardiovascular diseases, kidney diseases, liver diseases, and blood disorders.
• Those who experienced allergic symptoms such as fever or widespread rash within 2 days after receiving the vaccination
• Those who have experienced seizures
• Those diagnosed with immunodeficiency
• Those who have a close relative with congenital immunodeficiency
• Individuals who may have an allergy to the components of the shingles vaccine (live vaccine, inactivated vaccine)
• [For live vaccine (Biken)] Those who have received a blood transfusion or gamma globulin injection (Note: Please wait at least 3 months after treatment, or at least 6 months after treatment if you have undergone high-dose gamma globulin therapy, before vaccination.)
• [In the case of the inactivated vaccine (Shingrix)] Individuals with thrombocytopenia or coagulation disorders, and those undergoing anticoagulant therapy
