Mandatory Enrollment in Liability Insurance for Bicycle Users
From April 1, 2020, under the "Tokyo Metropolitan Ordinance on the Promotion of Safe and Proper Use of Bicycles," all individuals using bicycles within Tokyo are required to enroll in liability insurance (insurance that covers injuries caused to others).
If you are already enrolled through special contracts such as automobile insurance, fire insurance, or credit card benefits, there is no need to join a new insurance plan. Please first check your current insurance enrollment status.
