Medical care aims at recovery from “physical and mental discomfort or malaise” as well as “serious illnesses,” and has been practiced over a long period since prehistoric times. This is traditional medicine. In this lecture, we will analyze medical care and historical materials from the Chinese character cultural sphere, including Japanese Kampo medicine, and outline the historical facts and phenomena that emerge.
