QuestionI became ill while overseas and received treatment at a local medical facility. Can I receive a refund through the National Health Insurance?

Response

There may be cases where you are eligible for insurance coverage upon application. After a review of the content, if you are deemed eligible for insurance coverage, the amount excluding your out-of-pocket expenses will be paid later (approximately 3 months after the application).
The amount granted is determined by comparing the standard amount received for treatment at Japanese medical institutions for similar injuries and illnesses with the amount paid for treatment at overseas medical institutions.
However, please note that benefits will not be provided after two years from the day following the payment of Medical Expenses.
