There have been consultations at Consumer Affairs Centers across the country regarding business operators who send SMS (Short Message Service) messages to consumers' mobile phones stating things like, "There is an unpaid fee for paid videos. If you do not contact us by today, we will proceed with legal action. Amazon ●●," or "The membership registration fee is unpaid. If you do not contact us by today, we will proceed with small claims procedures. Amazon ●●." When consumers call the phone numbers listed in the SMS, these business operators persistently tell them things like, "If you do not pay, you will be sued," or "If you pay today, you will be refunded later," attempting to make them pay money under the pretext of unpaid fees for paid videos.
The Consumer Affairs Agency has provided information based on the provisions of Article 38, Paragraph 1 of the Consumer Safety Act (Act No. 50 of 2009) that there are Business Operators impersonating Amazon Japan G.K. or its affiliates (Business Operators impersonating Amazon) engaging in acts that may unjustly harm consumers' interests (deceiving or intimidating consumers to cause confusion) in transactions. To prevent the occurrence or expansion of consumer damage, we inform all consumers accordingly.

Note: In November 2017, the Consumer Affairs Agency issued a similar alert, but due to the ongoing and increasing consumer damage related to business operators impersonating Amazon, this notification has been issued again.
